À l’heure où vous lirez ces lignes, je serai loin!!  OK, pour deux semaines seulement, mais bon.

L’Irlande!  Juste ce mot me fait rêver!  Surnommée l’Île d’Émeraude, avec ses forêts aux allures impénétrables, ses paysages et ses panoramas côtiers à couper le souffle, cet endroit m’a toujours à la fois attirée et fascinée.

C’est donc tout à fait normal d’être dans tous mes états!  Toutefois, à la hâte habituelle que j’éprouve toujours à la veille d’un voyage, s’ajoute ceci.  À travers ma démarche artistique, une autre dimension s’installe désormais dans ces périples.  Celle de la planification en vue de produire!!!

Je me dis : « Il FAUT absolument que nous passions par là…  C’est trop beau.  Quelle toile magnifique cela va faire! ».  Je m’interroge à l’avance sur les endroits à voir, les photos que je serai en mesure de prendre, le genre de lumière qui serait idéale.  Je me questionne à savoir quel serait le meilleur moment de la journée pour visiter tel ou tel lieu selon l’atmosphère que je souhaite y capter.  Je m’imagine à genoux sur le sol, sous une croix celtique par exemple, cherchant un angle particulier pour réussir ZE PHOTO qui deviendra plus tard ZE TOILE.  Et étant donné que j’ai le déclic facile, il faut multiplier par cent!  J’ai d’ailleurs déjà fait promettre à mon chum que  si on jamais nous avons droit à un de ces crépuscules mordorés comme je les adore, nous lâchons tout et nous nous rendons… là!

La « Corvée »

C’est nouveau pour moi cet aspect de « travail » pendant les vacances!  Nouveau et excitant!  C’est une « corvée » bien agréable, je l’admets mais… une obligation quand même!  Toute ma production future en dépend!  Le sentiment d’excitation typique précédant un départ en voyage s’en trouve donc décuplé et rehaussé d’une minuscule dose de stress relié à ma faculté de performer en tant que photographe.

De même, en progressant dans ma production,  je m’aperçois que chaque endroit recèle son potentiel créatif bien à lui.  Je suis donc continuellement en train d’essayer de deviner à quoi ressembleront mes toiles.

Par exemple, de mon voyage aux Îles-de-la-Madeleine ont découlé des tableaux à la facture très organique.  Malgré les couleurs résolument chimériques que j’ai utilisées, on sent très bien les aspects à la fois aquatique et végétatif qui forment la trame de base et qui correspondent tout à fait aux Îles.  Le genre d’image vraiment propice à une création plus onirique, éclatée qui va jusqu’à flirter avec l’art abstrait.

Alors que l’Italie, pour sa part, avec sa grande bellezza, donne quelque chose de beaucoup plus figuratif et traditionnel.  En effet, jusqu’à maintenant, j’ai trouvé difficile voir impossible de ne pas aller vers une représentation éminemment classique qui… correspond tout à fait à l’image de ce pays!

Je soupçonne fortement que l’Irlande se dévoilera, elle aussi sous son propre jour, tour à tour mystérieuse et sauvage baignant dans son ambiance si particulière.  Je suis convaincue que les œuvres qui en découleront sauront, à l’instar des deux autres séries, s’illustrer dans leur style bien à eux.

La récompense

Je pense à tout ça et je souris.

Car je réalise que je serai toujours capable de retourner dans ces lieux magnifiques!

Au gré de mes nostalgies, je pourrai toujours replonger dans l’ambiance si particulière à laquelle j’aspirerai ne serait-ce que le temps de recréer sur une toile un espace merveilleux, inspiré de ses lieux d’origine!

Origins

By the time you read these lines, I will be far, far away!!  OK, only for a couple of weeks, but still.

Ireland!  Just the sound of it gets me going!  Also known as the Emerald Island, ornate with its seemingly impenetrable forests, amazing panoramic views and coastal landscapes, this place always both attracted and fascinated me.

Therefore, it’s not really surprising that I am beside myself with anticipation!!!  However, I realize that through my artistic production, an added dimension is now added to this trip.  That of planning in order to produce!!!

For example, I tell myself: “It IS absolutely NECESSARY that we pass by there…  It’s too beautiful.  What a splendid painting that will make! ».  I wonder in advance about places to see, photographs to take, the ideal lighting.  I speculate about when would be the best time of day to visit such and such a place according to the mood I wish to achieve.  I picture myself on my knees, on the ground, under a Celtic cross for example, seeking a particular angle to take ZE PICTURE which will eventually become ZE PAINTING.  And since I tend to take a lot of pictures, multiply this by a hundred!  I’ve already coerced my boyfriend in promising that if ever we are lucky enough to get one of these golden twilights that I adore, we stop anything we are doing and we go… there!

The “chore”

This is new for me this “work” aspect while on vacation!  New and exciting!  It is a very pleasant “chore” I’ll admit but… an obligation nevertheless!  All my future production depends on it!  The typical feeling of excitation preceding a departure is thus multiplied by a tenfold and enhanced with a tiny amount of stress directly related to my faculty to perform as a photographer.

Furthermore, while progressing in my production, I realize that each place holds its very own creative potential.  I am thus continuously trying to guess what my paintings will look like.

For example, my trip to the Magdalen Islands resulted in a series of artwork with a very organic feel to it.  In spite of the resolutely chimerical colours I used, one can very well detect the aquatic and vegetative feel that form creative base which very much corresponds to the Islands.  This kind of image is really well suited to produce a more liberated kind of approach one that almost flirts with abstract art.

The same goes for Italy whose grande bellezza, produced something much more figurative and traditional.  Indeed, up until now, I found very difficult, if not impossible, not to go towards an eminently classic representation which also corresponds completely to the image of this country!

I strongly suspect that Ireland will also unveil itself, in its own alternately mysterious and wild way.  I am convinced that the resulting artworks will reflect, like the other two series, the very special mood and atmosphere of its place of origins.

The reward

I think about all of this and smile.

Because I realize that I will be always able to return to these beautiful places!

Following the whims of my nostalgia, I’ll be able to plunge back into the unique atmosphere that I am yearning for, if only for the time it takes to create on a canvas a wonderful space inspired by the place it originated from!
