About the Artist

My interest in all art forms manifested in early childhood through all the activities I enjoyed.

I drew constantly, everywhere and on anything I could get my hands on.  I studied classical ballet and jazz ballet over a period of ten years.  I was a compulsive reader, constantly immersed in a novel.

Young adulthood saw me working in different fields.  After a few years of this eclectic regime, then the mother of two young children, I decided to study something that I always loved.

I got my certificate in Visual Arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal.   Later admitted in the Bachelor’s degree in Art education, I completed with success all of the creative courses including drawing, painting and sculpting.  I also went on to do the major part of the educational classes of the program.  However, various circumstances kept me from being able to finish my last session and making teaching my livelihood.

But the artist in me had a visceral need to create.  Passionate about cooking, I was seduced by the sensual and creative aspect of Culinary Art.  So I decided to reorient myself and undertook to learn professional cooking.  I finished my studies at the Institute of Tourism and of Hostelry of Quebec in June 1998.

I thouroughly loved my experience and I consider myself priviledged to have had the amazing opportunity to evolve in this field for an amazing twelve years.  Not only was I able to earn a living but I was doing something creative every day!

However, in the kitchen, the work of art lies in the plate!  The medium used is perishable, the support washable and the pace of production leaves very little time to capture images likely to fatten up an artist’s portfolio!

Although my path may seem a little atypical or eclectic, I feel very lucky to have gone through it because it allowed me to experiment a wide range of artistic mediums while fulfilling, at least in part, my need to create.

Through the years, I sporadically tried to reconnect with my first loves: drawing and painting.   However, the end result always seemed to lack direction, purpose.  Of course, one could see the technique, detect the talent.  But what could be sadder and more insipid than non-inspired art?  Sadly, these heartfelt rushes of creativity winded up being ephemeral flashes in the pan that left no traces behind them.

Finally, during the summer of 2015, while taking a stroll on one of the beautiful beaches of the Magdalene Islands, the much awaited epiphany happened!

I have always been attracted to photography but possess no particular knowledge about it.  Surprisingly, it is through this medium that my artistic eye suddenly caught something in an image, a detail, a little nothing… that changed everything!

Since that day I’m on fire!  Also passionate about traveling, I use the photographs I take on my trips to transform them into an image I can create on.

I have direction now, a purpose!  And so much inspiration that I can honestly look forward to a long and prolific artistic production I can’t wait to share with everyone!

Furthermore, the technique I use allows me offer people a chance to transform a cherished photograph into an original work of art!

I will conclude by saying that the best way to really know… most everything «about the artist» is to follow my blog « D’Arts et d’eau fraîche » / « Of Arts alone ».
